Hello

​I am a scientist to find ways to delay aging process.

​

My goal is to make people live longer and healthier.

Cellular senescence is one of the major players contributing to the fundamental aging process. My lab is leveraging novel mouse models and primary human tissues as tools to examine the role and underlying mechanisms of senescent cells in various conditions with aging or obesity. We aim to find new drugs to target senescent cells in order to alleviate a range of diseases as a group.

06/22  Rachel received an Kenneth and Paula Munson Family Fund Fellowship (UConn). Congratulations!!!

04/22  Our review, “The heterogeneity of cellular senescence: insights at the single-cell level.”, is published on Trends Cell Biol! https://doi.org/10.1016/j.tcb.2022.04.011 Rachel is the first author.

01/22  Our paper, “Targeting p21Cip1-Highly-Expressing Cells in Adipose Tissue Alleviates Insulin Resistance in Obesity”, is published on Cell Metabolism! https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cmet.2021.11.002. Lichao and Binsheng are co-1st authors. This study takes 3 years of hard work from the whole lab with some luck to finish.

10/21 Our paper,  “An inducible p21-Cre mouse model to monitor and manipulate p21-highly-expressing senescent cells in vivo”, is published on Nature Aging.  https://doi.org/10.1038/s43587-021-00107-6. Binsheng, Lichao and Nathan are co-1st authos. This paper describes a powerful mouse model to examine a unique population of senescent cells in vivo.

10/21 Our review, “Strategies for Targeting Senescent Cells in Human Disease”, is published on Nature Aging. https://doi.org/10.1038/s43587-021-00121-8  Nathan is the first author. Great job!

06/21 Both Nathan and TaeWan received an Kenneth and Paula Munson Family Fund Fellowship (UConn). Congratulations!!!

06/21  Nathan received a highly competitive Diana Jacobs Kalman Scholarship from AFAR. Congratulations!!

06/21  Our paper, “Senolytics alleviate the degenerative disorders of temporomandibular joint in old age.”, is published on Aging Cell. https://doi.org/10.1111/acel.13394  Yueying is the first author. This is a great collaboration between Dr. Yadav's group and us. 

06/21  Our paper, “Senolytics improve the in vivo bone forming potential of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells obtained from aged mice.”, is published on npj Regeneration Medicine, https://doi.org/10.1038/s41536-021-00145-z Yueying is the first author. This is a great collaboration between Dr. Rowe's group and us.

01/20  Our paper, “Transplanting Cells from Old but Not Young Donors Causes Physical Dysfunction in Older Recipients.”, is published on Aging Cell. https://doi.org/10.1111/acel.13106 Binsheng and Zukai (rotation student) are co-1st authors. This is my first publication as the last author.

07/18  Our paper, “Senolytics Improve Physical Function and Increase Lifespan in Old Age.”, is published on Nature Medicine. https://doi.org/10.1038/s41591-018-0092-9 I am the first and coresponding author. This work is a perfect ending point for my postdoc training with Dr. James Kirkland. Jim, I am so grateful to all your support. I am looking forward to our future collaboration.

06/18  I officially join UConn Center on Aging at UConn Health to start my lab.
